Before You Turn Twenty: What God Wants You to Know
Before You Turn Twenty: What God Wants You to Know
By David Iwuji
“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth…” — Ecclesiastes 12:1 (KJV)
There’s a reason God made you young before making you great. The teenage years are not wasted space in your journey—they are sacred ground. What you do before you turn twenty determines the direction, strength, and spiritual depth of your entire life.
In a world that tells you to “enjoy life first” and “settle down later,” God is calling you to start with Him early. He wants you to know some vital truths that will shape your future forever.
1. God Doesn’t Want You to Wait—He Wants You to Start Now
“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers…” — 1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV)
Many believe they’ll start serving God later—after school, after marriage, or when life gets serious. But the truth is: the earlier you start with God, the stronger you become in life.
God is not looking for future soldiers. He’s calling you now, as a teenager, to rise, follow, and walk with Him boldly.
2. Purpose Begins With the Person of Jesus
“For by Him were all things created… and by Him all things consist.” — Colossians 1:16–17 (KJV)
You can’t truly discover what you’re made for until you meet Who made you.
Many teens today are searching for identity through social media, relationships, money, or career dreams—but real purpose starts at the feet of Jesus. Before you turn twenty, God wants you to surrender your heart and receive the life-changing gift of salvation.
3. The Holy Spirit Wants to Be Your Friend Now
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost… he shall teach you all things…” — John 14:26 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit is not just for pastors or elders. He is for you. He wants to guide you into truth, comfort your heart, help you say no to sin, and ignite your spiritual gifts. You are not too young to hear God’s voice. You are not too young to pray powerfully. And you are certainly not too young to carry fire.
4. Your Choices Now Shape Your Future Later
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV)
Before twenty, many young people fall into the traps of sin, addiction, sexual compromise, or wrong company. But God wants to help you escape every one of those traps before they become chains.
Surround yourself with godly influences. Choose purity over pleasure. Choose discipline over distraction. These early years are either seeds for greatness or for regret.
5. You Are Not Ordinary—You’re a Giant in the Making
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee...” — Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV)
God has a special assignment on your life. There is a generation you are meant to influence. There are souls tied to your obedience. There is a fire in you waiting to be kindled.
Before you turn twenty, God wants you to know that you matter. You are not an accident or a random teenager. You are chosen.
Final Words: Start With God Now
The world is loud. But the voice of the Holy Spirit is louder to those who listen. Before you turn twenty, don’t waste time searching in all the wrong places. Come to Jesus. Walk in purpose. Live pure. Carry fire. Be an example. Let your youth become a testimony of glory.
