When God Speaks: How to Hear and Follow His Voice
When God Speaks: How to Hear and Follow His Voice
By David Iwuji
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27 (KJV)
Hearing God’s voice is not a privilege for the spiritually elite—it's a birthright for every believer, especially you, even before you turn twenty. You don’t need to wait till you’re older, ordained, or on a mountain retreat. God is speaking now. The question is: Are you listening?
🗣️ God Still Speaks—Loud and Clear
From Genesis to Revelation, God spoke:
- To Abraham through visions
 - To Moses through fire
 - To Samuel through a gentle call at night
 - To Mary through an angel
 - To Jesus in prayer

And today, He still speaks—through His Word, His Spirit, dreams, convictions, and prophetic voices.
🏃 How to Hear God’s Voice as a Teen
1. Start with the Word
God’s primary language is Scripture. Read your Bible daily. God speaks loudest through what He already wrote.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…” — Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
2. Stay in a Quiet Place
You can’t hear whispers in noise. Find quiet time with God—no music, no phone, just presence.
3. Pray with Expectation
Don’t just talk. Pause and listen. Ask God questions and wait with your heart open.
4. Learn the Language of Peace
God’s voice often comes with peace, clarity, and conviction—not confusion or fear.
5. Write What You Hear
Keep a notebook. God’s voice becomes clearer when you write and reflect.
⛔ Common Hindrances to Hearing God
- Sin and disobedience (Isaiah 59:2)
 - Distractions and busyness
 - Unbelief and doubt
 - No time in the Word

Clear the static to hear the signal. Holiness sharpens your spiritual hearing.
🕊️ Hearing God Is Only the Beginning
What’s more powerful than hearing God? Obeying Him. God doesn’t just speak to inform you—He speaks to transform and direct you.
“Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…” — James 1:22 (KJV)
Obedience unlocks doors that mere hearing never will.
👣 Final Words: Walk with the Voice
Before you turn twenty, make hearing God normal—not rare. Develop an ear for His whispers. Follow His nudges. Let your life be directed by the greatest Voice in the universe.
Because when God speaks and you follow, your life becomes a divine story in motion.
